Adornment Stories Presents:

Moving in Love While Overcoming

Join us for Moving in Love While Overcoming, a virtual screening of three powerful short films by our New Narratives alumni. The films offer distinct yet interconnected perspectives on how we navigate our journeys toward healing, self-discovery, and survival.

Each of these films beautifully tackles the intersections of love, trauma, and adversity, highlighting the importance of embracing both our pain and our healing.

About the films

Never Over By Miles Lamu (He/ They) – A trans man struggles with mental health and the expectation of being “okay” after transitioning. Told through his partner's perspective and a stranger's narration, the film reveals that love continues to live on in the hearts of those who were touched by it.

Dear Joanne By Colleen Ford (she/they) – This film is a letter to the filmmaker’s authentic self, celebrating personal growth and the importance of giving oneself grace. It invites viewers to reflect on their own journeys toward self-love and acceptance, acknowledging the struggles and triumphs along the way.

She Returned A God By Brittney Wilson – A survivor of sexual assault navigates the complex journey of healing through love, self-care, and empowerment. Through poetic metaphors and a deeply personal poem, the film explores the strength it takes to reclaim one’s power after trauma.

Storytelling has always been a tool and method for learning and unlearning in Black Communities. Our communities have used storytelling to communicate important information from one generation to the next. We archive our narratives and document our experiences to remind ourselves and generations after us “we are here”. Through storytelling we process our understanding and transform our realities.
