What makes a great Adornment Stories blog post?

When first writing a blog post for Adornment Stories, there are three key tips to keep in mind.

  1. Read our blog. Get a sense for the tone of the blog and what topics have been covered. You can also skim through our Instagram and Media Kit to get a sense of our audience, our platform and our vision.

  2. Blog posts should feel personal. We want to see how your perspective is incorporated into your work. This is your story, and you are the unique individual who can tell it.

  3. Adornment Stories is a platform for Black women, femme & non-binary voices and we look for language to remain inclusive. If you require additional resources, please let us know and we would be happy to accommodate.

How can you pitch your idea?

If you are choosing from the preselected topics, just reply to the Call Out email and indicate which topic you are interested in covering. The current list of unclaimed topics can be found here. If you have a different topic you would like to introduce to us, you can start by submitting a pitch. This is a brief paragraph detailing to us what you want to talk about, why it’s important and how you are bringing your unique perspective to the table.

How do you submit to the blog?

Drafts should be submitted as a .DOCX file. Upload all files/images to the designated shared 'Submissions' folder. Be sure to submit FIRST drafts to the 'First Draft' folder and FINAL drafts to the 'Final Draft' folder (Access to the folders will be provided once you’ve selected a topic).

Visual content

Make visual content for the platform:

Do you like capturing stories through the lens of a camera? Are you familiar with video editing? Or do you just want to share your knowledge on make up, arts or wellness? Yes to any of the above is welcomed and encouraged. If you have the ideas, we have the resources and guidance to help you develop and produce your short video, photo series, tutorial or visual project.

We welcome creatives of all kinds on our team including photographers, videographers, MUA’s, hair stylists and writers. We want to hear your voices and your stories.

As part of the creative team, your voice becomes part of our collective.

What type of content could you make?

The short and simple answer is, whatever you’re capable of. Whether it’s a video essay, a make up tutorial, a photo series, a visual poetry series, a virtual love letter, etc, we want to hear your ideas and help you share your unique voice.

What resources are available?

We can coordinate times to work in the Adornment Stories Studio, which is fully equipped with lights, cameras, tripods, backdrops, mics and more. You would also have access to editing software (ie. Lightroom) for post production. With a clear understanding of your vision, we can help you get there.
